Il Casentino ®
In fashion since 1537
Only a few can share a similar history. Only very few creations as the original "Casentino" texture, the "Panno" ( the Cloth) as people in Tuscany calls it since the Medici times. In our days, days of fast changing styles, the "Casentino" resists well and becomes a permanent classic, periodically selected by the most well known stylists for overrefined country look-elegant collections. Simply borne from the fantasy and from the best popular taste and adopted in the 800‘ by country gentlemen , overcoats and jackets are today manufactured in this Casentino cloth in a tailor dressmaking manner and shown off in metropolitan sophisticated boutique windows, yet respectful of an old tradition lasting almost five hundred years.
History and curiousness of "CASENTINO "
The first certain traces on the cloth "panno Casentino" date to the period when the Medici governed Firenze. An old story reminds that the inhabitants of Palagio Fiorentino di Stia paid their taxex in woollen fabrics Orbace and "Casentino" (the first made for the Camalodes fathers). By the passing of time the Casentino material became very much appreciated by local men of means, land owners and rich merchants, specially in the classic orange colour which is told to have been originated from a mistake in the chemical receipt. Now a days, after generations, people belonging to old titled families still wear the double- breasted, half belted, and fox-necked Casentino overcoat (having a big fold on the rear ) in its orange colour with lining in green woollen material (women prefer green Casentinos with orange lining)
